Thanksgiving 2020

Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated by many people around the world, where people get together with loved ones to give thanks for the blessings in their lives. This years Thanksgiving is truly a unique one as we have had to adapt to the reality of COVID-19 and use virtual means to connect to some of our loved ones.

Typically, most people celebrate by preparing and eating a Thanksgiving meal. This meal usually includes turkey; however, the specific food can change depending on the people celebrating and their food preferences.

One of the best parts of this holiday is being able to be with the people we love and care about most and sharing this special day with them.

Ace Acumen has prepared a virtual album with the photos we received from our students showcasing how they are celebrating Thanksgiving now or some of their favourite photos from past thanksgiving holidays.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Virtual Workshop Series

Our virtual workshop series has started with great success!  On Friday October 9th, 2020 at 10:30 AM EST, Ace Acumen Academy hosted the first synchronous virtual workshop of the Fall semester. Our goal was to create an accessible learning environment for students, whether in Canada or abroad, where they receive additional student support to help them succeed in their post-secondary education.

In our first workshop, our advisors, Rodrigo and Larry educated students of the topics of Getting and Using E-resources, Professional Emails, and Work Standards.

A successful attendance was achieved with over 60 students registered and present for the event. To ensure student participation, the event was promoted on Acumen’s Instagram page and personal invitations were sent to student’s college emails explaining the process of registration, the date and time and the subject matter.

The virtual workshops are one of the ways Acumen is adapting to the reality of online education. Future workshops will be developed using the feedback and input of participating students. We endeavor to continue to elevate students’ success through new and innovative ways of learning.

Staff at Ace Acumen hope that attendees found value in the experience, having learned something new to support their professional development, and getting some of their questions answered.

Our next workshop will be coming up at the end of this month, stay tuned to your emails and the Acumen Instagram page for details.  Please follow Ace Acumen’s Instagram page to get updates on future workshop, virtual events/activities and other important news. Thanksgiving Message to Staff and Students

Dear Staff and Students:

On behalf of the Principal and Board of Directors, we are now in the third week back on campus for the Fall semester and, while we have established strong safety protocols that we expect everyone to follow, we are concerned that there has been some non-compliance. It is imperative that everyone abide by the rules and follow ALL of the established protocols, which were instituted for the health and safety of the entire College family and with our community in mind. Failure to comply with the protocols will be dealt with under the requirements of the College’s Health and Safety Policy and/or the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.

With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday approaching, please be respectful of the public health requirements for the safety of the community as outlined by our Premier (https://www.wechu.org/newsroom/news-release-lets-celebrate-thanksgiving-safely).

As a critical reminder, masks are mandatory indoors in all common areas, labs, shops and classrooms. If you are outside, you must either maintain a 2 meter distance from everyone else or wear your mask. There are no exceptions.

Note: As a reminder, you can find all St Clair College safety protocols and procedures outlined on the College website, at https://stclaircollege.ca/health-centre/coronavirus/faq. Ace Acumen is modeling and has implemented safety protocols in-line with St Clair College.

We all have a stake in keeping our community safe. If you are ill, stay home. Students must inform their faculty and staff must inform their manager if absent. The screening tool cannot be used as a method of communicating your absence.

Students, please be aware that the College will accommodate your absence and help you catch up if classes are missed due to illness. We are here to support you through this situation.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our campus safe. We wish you all a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend.

I am an international student who is starting post-secondary studies this September at St. Clair College @ Acumen.  Due to COVID-19, I have received preliminary approval (ie. Stage 1 Approval) from IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) to begin on-line studies from my home country.  What happens if I do not receive my Canadian Study Visa to travel to Canada (ie. Stage 2 Approval) after I have already commenced by studies?

In the event you do not receive Stage 2 Approval and your Canadian Study Permit is declined, St. Clair College @ Acumen is willing to refund or defer your full tuition payment, less the $125 application fee already paid.

Virtual Career Workshop: Resumes and Interviews

On July 15th, 2020, Acumen hosted a virtual career workshop giving students important information and guidance in creating their professional resumes, as well as some useful interview tips. Just because COVID-19 has us all physical distancing and safe at home, does not mean we cannot connect and help each other out, help each other improve and learn.

Advisor Rodrigo was the host, online with the students going through step by step the critical parts of any professional resume and how to develop different pieces of it. Towards the end of the workshop, there was also a discussion about what to do to prepare and be successful in job interviews.

The workshop was recorded so that students who did not get the chance to attend could watch it on their own time and benefit from the workshop.

Acumen is looking forward to hosting more virtual career workshops in the coming months. We cannot wait to see you there!

Stay safe,

Acumen

Carrying us through COVID-19

Let us not forget all the hardworking front line workers who are collectively carrying us through our conquering of COVID-19. Acumens Social Service Worker – Gerontology fourth semester class during the Spring 2020 semester has put together this wonderful collage video showing their warm thanks and appreciation to all front line workers; the workers in the stores where we buy our food, the workers driving the buses that help us get to the places we need to go and the workers caring for our loved ones in long term care/senior home facilities, retirement communities and hospitals. The front line workers who have been working since COVID-19 started are truly role models and examples of how to handle COVID-19.

If you are reading this and you are a front line worker know how thankful we all are at Acumen. You truly are amazing in every way!

Thank you,

Acumen

Canada Day 2020

As proud Canadians, COVID-19 will not stop us from celebrating Canada Day. Students and staff alike were commemorating this wonderful day while maintaining the physical distancing rules set forth by our government officials.

Many of us threw on our red and white colours and celebrated with food, drinks and loved ones. The submissions were put together and turned into a lovely little collage inside of our strong and free maple leaf!

Happy Canada Day Saints!
