Deerhurst Annual Staff Retreat 2018

After various scenic and staff full and friendly carpool drives up to Muskoka’s Deerhurst Resort for the Ace Acumen Annual Staff Retreat, everyone arrived safe and sound to the conference room, where Gene Lai, our amazing HR representative awaited us with his amazing presentation on teamwork.

Thankfully, Ace Acumen requested the resort provide coffee and snacks because a coffee is just what everyone needed after the little 2 hour road trip.

Gene began the professional development session reminding us of Ace Acumen’s core values. He then went on to explain to us the Accident Investigation Policy. Finally, he began the bread and butter of the session, his presentation on teamwork, which allowed us all to interact with each other as a team, which was very fitting.

This put us in the exact spirit we were going to need to build boats as a team out of cardboard and tape. We then got to test them out on the lake, which our brave team captains graciously volunteered to do.

We all proceeded after our lake voyages to our well-deserved staff dinner. Overall, as usual, another successful staff retreat.

For the majority of students this was the first time visiting the magnificent world’s natural wonder and experiencing fascination of the Falls! Besides the Niagara Falls, the students also got a chance to enjoy different attractions, restaurants, entertainment and even do a little bit of shopping – in order to hide from the cold weather conditions. After this trip the students said that they would definitely come back there in the summer when they can spend more time by the water and possibly see the rainbow above the Falls. On the way back to Toronto, the students did not waste their time on the bus and instead were singing out loud, playing games and spending time to get to know each other, which made this trip very successful as the students spent a lot of time making new friends and experiencing the Canadian culture!

Team Building Activity March Break

During the week of March 12 – 16, 2018 when the students of St. Clair College @ Acumen were enjoying their March Break, the staff of each department joined various activities organized by their Directors. These activities were held in order to strengthening employee relations and build the teamwork within the company.

The Student Services department decided to attend a painting class at the Apollo School of Art, where the team was guided by a professional instructor to paint a beautiful piece of art selected by the participants. This was a place to let everyone’s imagination and creativity to come alive and to have the experience to work as a team in the different environment. After the paintings were complete, everyone went to enjoy lunch at one of the traditional Chinese restaurants.

The Academic department went for the afternoon tea to a local place called T-Buds. This unique activity provided a great way for everyone to connect on an informal personal level while sharing a cup of tea with desserts. The warm atmosphere allowed the staff members to share their stories and plans for the future and to get to know each other on a deeper level.

Finally, the Admission and Facilities department went to World Bowl for an afternoon of bowling. It was a very effective way for all the staff to get to know each other as the department has been recently restructured. The activity was very entertaining as everyone got a chance to cheer on and support each other.

The team building activities always take an integral part of Ace Acumen Academy’s culture as they bring staff together outside of their workplace and help to make stronger relationships, which is incredibly important for any healthy organization.
