Police Seminars 2019

Life in Canada is great, it’s full of freedom and it’s safe. However these qualities of living in Canada are the result of its inhabitants following and abiding by the laws and rules of this great country.

What better way to assist our students in this regard then to have one of Canada’s own police officers visit our classrooms and give our students talks around many important topics.

Officer David started off by letting all of our students know that he personally came to Canada many years ago as an immigrant and through his hard work and following the rules and laws was able to become a success.

Officer David told our students about rules and laws around many topics, and these topics included:

  • Driving
    • Rules of the road
    • Ownership of vehicles
    • Speeding
  • Verbal and Physical Abuse
    • Any sort of physicality or touch may not be viewed as appropriate to many people in
      Canada.
    • Best policy is to not be physical or verbally physical with anyone.
    • Threats.
    • Harassment.
    • Intimidating behavior.
  • Consuming Substances
  • Smoking Regulations and laws

Officer David was great! We will be inviting him back a number of times this year and in the near future to help us make sure all students receive these important lessons.

Thank you Officer David!

Women’s Empowerment Talk Event

On Wednesday, November 13th  2019, Ace Acumen Academy proudly held its first Women’s Empowerment Talk event, a motivational event for our female students. The speaker, Katie Zeppieri, founder and creative director from the Girl Talk Empowerment movement, is a social entrepreneur, author, blogger and motivational speaker, who has spoken across North America, including on the TED Talk international stage in Vancouver.

Katie brought to our students a series of positive messages about empathy. She discussed on how to make your mark in the world and women empowerment. She also described how having education is a privilege to be enjoyed and on how to overcome your anxiety and barriers that all women face to achieve their goals whether personal or professional and believing in yourself and being extraordinary – quoting Jimmy Johnson “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra” definitely helps. In her generosity, Katie drew one of the students from those in attendance to give her an autographed copy of her book.

As a team, it was easy to see that our students felt that they could relate to many of the situations and messages that Katie presented. By the end of the talk a number of our students had time for one-on-one chats with Katie and took pictures.

We are very pleased with the positive feedback we have heard from our students and are looking forward for more successful events like this one!

Curvaceous Pumpkin Halloween

Halloween is on October 31 st each year and it is one of Canadians favorite holidays because it gives adults and children alike the chance to dress up and be someone else for the day; of course just as long as they remember they still have to act like themselves and be the good workers and students they are!

This year Ace Acumen celebrated Halloween with a number of fun events, the highlights being the dressing up in different costumes and make up and the pumpkin carving competition which our students participated in. For just about all the students participating it was their first time carving a pumpkin. Even with the fact that they have not done this type of activity before they were seasoned professionals, as their pumpkins came out looking amazing!

Happy Halloween!

Trip to Wonderland’s Halloween Haunt

On October 19th our students had the chance to attend a spooky trip to the Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan.

Halloween Haunt occurs every year during the month of October in the evenings and leads us to one of the most popular holidays of the year, Halloween!

At Canada’s Wonderland that day all the employees dress up in costumes and make up and become monsters and zombies, and haunted houses are built upon the regular grounds of the theme park for visitors to make their way through bravely, without getting scared too much. The wonderful roller coasters were also operating as well so our students got the chance to ride some of them as well. All of our students had a great time being brave with their friends and staff in the haunted houses and have memories that will last them a lifetime.

Mid Autumn Dancing Festival

On September 15, 2019, St. Clair College @ Ace Acumen was happy to have participated in the Mid-Autumn Festival; the second grandest festival in China after the Chinese New Year. It takes its name from the fact that it is always celebrated in the middle of the autumn season. The day is also known as the Moon Festival, as at that time of the year the moon is at its roundest and brightest. Mid-Autumn Festival is on the 15th day of the 8th Chinese lunar month. The date of the festival in Gregorian calendar changes every year, but it is usually in September or October. Studying in Toronto city has so many advantages; one of them is being in a multicultural city. We celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with a Punjabi folks dance, Bhangra. It was a great experience and atmosphere as well as remarkable memories for our staff and students.

Orientation Fall 2019

Welcome to St Clair @ Ace Acumen Academy!
School is back, and hundreds of students filled the halls at Ace Acumen Academy, ready to experience College for the first time. The entire staff helped to welcome new students with ice breakers and introductions, then lead students through all the important information they needed to start a successful school year.
Orientation provided a great opportunity for the development of community. Students met the Academic Department and Student Services – the people who help them through their College experience and give them the tools they need to succeed. Additionally, students met the friends they will keep for the coming years.

With an essential address regarding adjusting to College life, one of our professors shared the keys to managing mental health as students have begun to live independently, and are now taking their future into their own hands.

Finally, after an important message of encouragement and discipline in education shared by our Principal and CEO, students completed their registration, and enjoyed complimentary snacks as they readied themselves for the exciting journey of getting a quality Canadian education.

Safety Awareness by Toronto Police

Safety in a foreign country may seem like common sense- or is it? Here are some of the key takeaways from Officer Xin and Officer Mann, who are members of the Toronto police who visited our campus this week. Here are some of the highlights of their presentation.

Be aware of the Rules!

In Canada, there are rules that we share similar to the rules in China and India. For example, we should respect one another’s property. However, the list of things that are acceptable in China and India do not correspond with the list of things that are acceptable in Canada. For example, in China, it is acceptable to practice martial arts with the use of nunchucks. But in Canada, nunchucks are considered as dangerous- and the possession of it is strictly prohibited. Thus, one should not show negligence in a foreign country.

Stay Protected wherever you are!

Regardless of where you are, you should never go somewhere that is dangerous. If you can prevent yourself from being a victim in the first place, you can avoid a whole set of future problems. For instance, do not travel alone in a dark alley at night. Or do not get intoxicated at a bar where others can take advantage of you.

Safety should always be first on your priority list at all times- anything can happen at any time. It is the Toronto Police’s job to protect you, and it is your responsibility to assist the Toronto Police! If you feel danger or feel unsafe at any point, feel free to contact any of our staff. In case of emergencies, always know 911 is there to protect you!
