Pączki Day 2020

Today staff and students celebrated cultural diversity in both Toronto campus and Mississauga campus, where everyone was able to enjoy some delectable donuts and also learned a little bit about this wonderful tradition.

Diversity is what makes Canada, the place we call home so great. We are privileged to have a plethora of different cultures in our country and cities that allows us to always learn something new and interesting, practically every day.

Pączki Day is a time that people of Polish decent traditionally observe the day before Ash Wednesday. Paczki’s are like little jam filled deep fried donuts and historically they were made so that people could use up all sugar, eggs, butter and lard before Lent, during which folks give up an indulgence for 40 days.

Happy Pączki Day everyone!

Police Seminars 2019

Life in Canada is great, it’s full of freedom and it’s safe. However these qualities of living in Canada are the result of its inhabitants following and abiding by the laws and rules of this great country.

What better way to assist our students in this regard then to have one of Canada’s own police officers visit our classrooms and give our students talks around many important topics.

Officer David started off by letting all of our students know that he personally came to Canada many years ago as an immigrant and through his hard work and following the rules and laws was able to become a success.

Officer David told our students about rules and laws around many topics, and these topics included:

  • Driving
    • Rules of the road
    • Ownership of vehicles
    • Speeding
  • Verbal and Physical Abuse
    • Any sort of physicality or touch may not be viewed as appropriate to many people in
      Canada.
    • Best policy is to not be physical or verbally physical with anyone.
    • Threats.
    • Harassment.
    • Intimidating behavior.
  • Consuming Substances
  • Smoking Regulations and laws

Officer David was great! We will be inviting him back a number of times this year and in the near future to help us make sure all students receive these important lessons.

Thank you Officer David!

Women’s Empowerment Talk Event

On Wednesday, November 13th  2019, Ace Acumen Academy proudly held its first Women’s Empowerment Talk event, a motivational event for our female students. The speaker, Katie Zeppieri, founder and creative director from the Girl Talk Empowerment movement, is a social entrepreneur, author, blogger and motivational speaker, who has spoken across North America, including on the TED Talk international stage in Vancouver.

Katie brought to our students a series of positive messages about empathy. She discussed on how to make your mark in the world and women empowerment. She also described how having education is a privilege to be enjoyed and on how to overcome your anxiety and barriers that all women face to achieve their goals whether personal or professional and believing in yourself and being extraordinary – quoting Jimmy Johnson “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra” definitely helps. In her generosity, Katie drew one of the students from those in attendance to give her an autographed copy of her book.

As a team, it was easy to see that our students felt that they could relate to many of the situations and messages that Katie presented. By the end of the talk a number of our students had time for one-on-one chats with Katie and took pictures.

We are very pleased with the positive feedback we have heard from our students and are looking forward for more successful events like this one!

Curvaceous Pumpkin Halloween

Halloween is on October 31 st each year and it is one of Canadians favorite holidays because it gives adults and children alike the chance to dress up and be someone else for the day; of course just as long as they remember they still have to act like themselves and be the good workers and students they are!

This year Ace Acumen celebrated Halloween with a number of fun events, the highlights being the dressing up in different costumes and make up and the pumpkin carving competition which our students participated in. For just about all the students participating it was their first time carving a pumpkin. Even with the fact that they have not done this type of activity before they were seasoned professionals, as their pumpkins came out looking amazing!

Happy Halloween!

Diwali 2019

Diwali is called the festival of lights, and at Acumen all of our students are bright lights for the future! On October 23rd students and staff at Ace Acumen celebrated a little early but celebrated nevertheless this wonderful day. Lights in this celebration represent the triumph of light over dark and the power of good over evil.

Our students celebrated with lights and decorations, music and dance and also had their hands decorated with Hanna drawings, created by our very own students, such great artists.

Diwali is one holiday that is always dear to our hearts here at Acumen, and we cannot wait to celebrate
it again next year.
